Accumulated Wisdom  (Amended and Extended from July ’22 Newsletter The Joy of Journaling)

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been doing a lot of looking back recently.

I don’t normally enjoy looking back: because when I am looking back, I’m usually trying to resolve or heal something, but at the moment, it feels important to look back, because more difficulty might be on the road up ahead. It feels like looking back might just help with the moving forward.

Recently, I have been searching for “lost” wisdom in my journals: not my wisdom, you understand but wisdom I had received when in conversation with the Universe.

I began journaling when I was ill but even after I recovered (around 2011) I continued to journal. As I have progressed along my spiritual journey, my journals have changed a lot.  The early entries were about Oracle cards, then tarot cards (to help me to understand myself), a lot of angry entries trying to figure out my relationships with friends and family and how they affected my energy levels! But eventually they gave way to insights and experiences and ideas on how to help others. And through the years of journaling, I have not been alone. My guide Elizabeth and higher beings have offered wisdom when I needed it most.

Sometime back along my spiritual path, when I got annoyed with Elizabeth for “not warning me” or telling me something important (yes I’m a bit fiery, I admit it) she answered,

“You know how it works; we can’t help unless you ask. You didn’t ask.”

She had me on this important technicality! I have an eternally curious nature, I just used to forget to ask spirit for help. I didn’t forget to ask after that, and the ever-patient Universe always answers even my dumbest of questions!

I decided to go back through 10 years of journals and look for the wisdom I could share.

Recently, I had a very strong sense that I should share this, so that others can take the wisdom and do whatever they wish with it. My Choice Point this year had showed me very clearly that the Universe is a circulatory system: what circulates is love. It doesn’t belong to anyone, it’s just that loving energy permeates through everything in the Universe, and it circulates without need or want or condition (unconditional love). That’s just how the Universe works. And so it felt right in this Choice Point year that I circulate the wisdom that I have received. It’s not my wisdom, it doesn’t belong to me! I just asked a lot of questions, and I received a lot of answers, so I am sharing them (and you’ll start to see them on the blog and video pages on my website in greater numbers soon, I’ve loaded a couple but there’s 10 years still to come!).

As I read through my journals, something interesting happened: I realised that by looking back in my life and instead of looking for what needed healing, by looking instead for what wisdom I had accumulated, I realised that through the years, everything that ailed me also contained the keys to my liberation and back to my Original Blueprint of who I am. The Me, before experiences changed and moulded me into something else. We suffer the most because we’ve lost sight of who we really are and what we came to contribute. The truer to my original self I am, the less I suffer.

From my Journal,

“Suffering is the accumulation of untruths. Healing is the remembering of Truth.”

Often with healing there are layers and people get frustrated that “I thought I’ve healed that! I can’t believe it’s come round again!” but each layer brings new understanding and insight. There really is so much to learn about the human experience, and we often can’t let go of all the untruths in one round of healing!

Looking back on the mess of my emotions, challenges, my angers, frustrations and disappointments, intwined in them were also the awesome truths that healed my body, my heart, my fears and my limitations.

These journals have become a record of my growth, but maybe more importantly my return to myself; my true self.

Yet, this journal journey is far from over!

But I realised that looking back with different eyes, offered me an insight into how far I’d come and it gave me hope that whatever challenges comes next, I have the inner resources to work through those too.

There really is something quite magical about non-censored, completely truthful, pen and paper writing. I’ve often written something in my journal and exclaimed, “I didn’t know that’s how I really felt!” and yet there it was on the page, written by me and I knew the Truth (or sub/unconscious untruth) had found its way onto the page so that I could bring it into my conscious awareness to be examined and worked through.

Looking back over 10 years, it gave me an opportunity to really acknowledge myself and how I’ve grown. Sometimes we feel stuck, like we’re going nowhere, we just lurch from one challenge to another and don’t take the time to acknowledge that we made it through that challenge, we’d learnt from it, we’d made positive changes, created positive new habits etc. We just move forward without noticing what an amazing job we’ve done at facing life’s challenges with courage, strength and adaptability!

So that’s my suggestion: to look back at your past not with cynical or judgemental eyes, don’t look for what needs healing or with sadness or regret of the challenges you may have faced, but with eyes that search for what you have gained, what important lessons you have learnt, what wisdom you’ve accumulated, how you’ve grown, what joys you’ve uncovered, what more love or peace you have and how much more of your true self you’ve returned to.

And give yourself a hug. Give yourself a kiss (kiss your hands or any part of your body you can reach!), give yourself a congratulatory pat on the back and/or squeeze of the knee of “well done”! Life isn’t always easy, but you’re here so acknowledge yourself and your life so far. You don’t have to wait for anyone else, give this gift to yourself!

There is wisdom in all our histories. We’ve all got wounds, but the wounds have also gifted us wisdom on how to navigate them – acknowledge what you have learnt and offer yourself love.. and in the circulatory loving nature of the Universe, acknowledge someone else, let them know they are loved and ask them to pass it on…

Love,
