It’s March! The first signs of Spring are beginning to emerge and bloom! I love the first signs of Spring approaching, it’s filled with such hope!

Last weekend, encouraged by the first snowdrops, as I had begun to ponder what I might like to grow this year in my garden, I stopped by a market stall to discuss potato growing with an experienced garden seller.

What started out as a simple conversation about potatoes took on a deeper meaning for me.

It began very innocently with a question about why I had a poor potato harvest previous years which culminated with me asking, “If I tell you what I did, can you tell me what I am missing?”

I began to explain my planting and he stopped me very quickly!

Maybe it was my poor schooling to blame (so for convenience, lets place the blame there!) but whenever I think about what plants need, I think of sun, soil and water. I plant items in prepared soil, I give them as sunny a spot as I can, and I water them with dedication. And so, I am always a bit shocked when they don’t do well. The same, I discovered equally recently, was the reason why houseplants also die. I’m sure if you’re an avid gardener, had better schooling than me or are naturally green fingered, you’re shouting, “what about the food, you fool!” right now!

I assumed quite incorrectly, that the soil had all the food required (I do prep the soil and use compost and manure) and that additional food was not required. But, nope. You still need to feed your plants! This brought on a wave of sadness as I now felt very bad that I had been starving my poor plants, without realising it.

And that’s what got me thinking…

We often have good intentions, we often have heart-felt dreams, we plant our seeds in good faith, believing that one day our dreams and goals will grow and bloom. But we all have blind spots, we all have gaps in our knowledge and education. We believe that we have the soil, we’ve given our dreams a sunny spot and we water it daily, but what if there is something else that our dreams need to truly grow and truly bloom?

I began to wonder what other parts of my life need nourishing, that I’m unintentionally starving?

When it comes to potatoes, this experienced gardener gave me a crash course in fertilizer (as I am an enthusiastic learner but a most definite novice gardener!). I was told that fertilisers/ plant food have 3 elements and they come in different ratios. NPK – Nitrogen (N), Phospherous (P) and Potassium (K). The nitrogen for healthy leaves, the potash for healthy roots and potassium for healthy cells and abundant flowers/fruit/veg.  Different plants need a different combo but these 3 covers the essentials!

But what do our dreams, our hopes, our purpose, our version of a good life need to bloom ? What are the 3 essential ingredients we needed to nourish our life? Unlike plants, it seems to me that we need to figure out our own personal ratio and mix because our paths are unique to us.

So, I came up with the following enquiries:

  1. What seeds do I wish to plant this year?
  2. How do I want to grow in my life this year?
  3. What do I need to nourish in my life to really bloom this year?
  4. What areas of my life are being neglected because I don’t understand what is needed for them to grow healthy and strong? What have I never thought of, that I might need to grow in this area? Do I need some expert help?
  5. Using the plant metaphor – what will help my roots, leaves and fruit to grow strong, bloom and be abundant?
  6. What is my personal 3-part ratio that is essential for my life /dreams to grow this year? And how do I give this to myself daily, weekly, monthly?

This month’s invincibility principle is Spaciousness. This is a big theme for 2023 for everyone, not just me. So immediately, I already knew that Spaciousness was something I needed to nurture and really create a practice around this year. So, Spaciousness is definitely one of my 3 parts.

What 3 essential elements do you require to grow and bloom this year?

Do you have any blind spots? Not sure? It’s not easy to see our own, so that when conversations with others experienced in these areas, wise friends and experts in your communities become invaluable!

For the month of March, as the seeds we have planted begin to emerge and grow towards the light, it’s worth spending some time, giving yourself some space to really figure out how you can feed your ideas, businesses, dreams to grow into something of beauty this year. If you think becoming invincible would help with this why not consider a monthly subscription to the Becoming Invincible Together Membership?
